Students
The Verge Student Ministry is for students in 6-12th grade.
The Realm
The Realm is our Sunday morning Bible study program for students in
grades 6-12. The goal is to take a deeper look at the Bible and apply
it to our lives. As students arrive, we start out in a big group and
hang out for a little while, listen to music, play video games, or just
chill. At 9:45 a.m., we share announcements and a moment of quiet time
to focus on the teaching. Then we move into separate classes for each
grade, dig into the Bible message and discuss its application to our
lives. The Verge
The Verge is a Sunday evening Student Ministry for grades 6-12.
We meet from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. We open with a
fellowship time to let students hang out, play video games, enjoy
sports, engage in team activities, go skating, eat food, or just chill.
Kris Clifford, our youth minister, then shares a short message, and
students move into small groups, divided into high school and middle
school grades. The small groups discuss the message and how it applies
to their lives. This is a place where students can be free to be
themselves without the usual pressures of life. The program is open to
all students, no matter who they are, where they have been, or what
they believe. Wednesday Night Bible Study
Wednesday Night Bible Study is an in-depth study of the Bible,
led by the Associate Pastor, June Clifford. Students take a
comprehensive journey through the Bible, discussing the author of each
book, its historical context, and the deeper meanings of the words in
passages of Scripture. We also discuss deeper issues of faith and how
they apply to a student’s life. We explore questions about origins and
evolution, varying world views, issues concerning doubt, and other
faith-related topics. This is an awesome opportunity to build a firmer
faith foundation for your life. Yearly Retreats Students
love to get away for a weekend and have an incredible time together. In
the fall, we have a weekend retreat just for girls and another one just
for guys. On a retreat, students talk about gender-related issues,
share gender-specific activities, and discuss God's intent for them as
they grow into adulthood. In the spring, students can enjoy either a
Middle School Retreat or a High School Retreat. The times of sharing
use the same teaching material, but each retreat is tailored to its
specific age groups. In the winter, all of the students are invited to
enjoy a weekend ski retreat. Mission Trips In the
summer, we take large groups of students on mission trips around the
country and around the world. At Effort, we believe that an important
part of being a Christ follower is to put your faith into action.
Beyond studying how to make a difference in the world, we actually want
to practice it. Our students have gone on mission trips from
Massachusetts to Kentucky, from North Carolina to Georgia, from
Mississippi to New Orleans, and to different parts of Virginia. We have
also taken students on mission trips around the globe from Mexico to
Panama, from Nicaragua to Brazil, and from England to our sister church
in Liberia, Africa. These trips are open to high school students only.
Our trips to Africa are open to recent High School graduates only. We
have found that teaching students is great, but the most visible
life-change occurs when students put their faith into action.
Camp Every summer, we
go to camp for one week, and it rocks! Thanks to a relationship with
Watermarks Camp near Scottsville, we are allowed design our own camp
experience for that amazing facility. We plan the camp to fit our
students where they are and to provide what they need to take the next
step of faith. This is a great time for students to invite their
friends to an event that showcases faith but does not force it on them.
The camp is designed to be unique, exciting, surprising, inspiring and
unlike any camp experience students have ever had. To check out the
camp, go to www.watermarkscamp.com. |
